24 Uplifting Bible Verses on Confidence In Christ

Have you walked into a room full of people and felt out of place?  Have you worried about where you would sit, or if anyone would talk to you? Do you make choices to please others in the hopes that they’ll really like you?

I know I have! That feeling of uncertainty and fear is insecurity. Whether it’s the fear of failure, the unknown, or judgment, insecurity is a stronghold for women and can lead us to make poor choices.

The antonym of insecurity is confidence, stability, certainty, and strength.  But instead of focusing on boosting our self-confidence, we should work on our Savior-confidence.

Here are 24 uplifting bible verses on confidence in Christ.

What Does the Bible say About Confidence?

The Bible is clear that we shouldn’t place our confidence in ourselves, others, or in anything but God himself. (Psalm 118:8-9; Psalm 146:3; Proverbs 25:19; Micah 7:5; 1Tim. 6:17)

It also says that we can have confidence in the day of the Lord if we abide in Jesus because then we will reflect his image. (1John 2:28; 1John 4:17)

Examples of Confidence in the Bible:

There are a plethora of stories in the bible of people who had strong faith. As a lover of the Psalms, King David is my favorite example of having confidence in God in times of trouble.

Called a man after God’s own heart, David had remarkable faith. He was consistently in precarious positions as he was chased by King Saul, the Philistine armies, and even his own son Absalom. Possibly the most famous exhibition of his confidence in God was when he faced Goliath in 1 Samuel 17.

David, as a young shepherd boy, had experienced God’s miraculous deliverance from vicious creatures as he was faithfully tending to his father’s flock. He was certain the Lord would deliver him from the giant as well. (v.37, 46) His faith inspires me to rely on my prior encounters with God to inform my present expectations.

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.” Psalm 56:3-4 KJV

Example of Someone Without Confidence in the Bible

In contrast, look at the story of Moses in Exodus chapters 3 and 4. God speaks to him out of a burning bush and tells him he’s going to use him to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Egyptians.

What is Moses’ immediate reaction?  He says “who am I?”, and “they won’t believe me.”

Moses had no confidence. He sees himself as incapable and inadequate.  God reminds Moses that he made him the way he is and that He would help him speak.

Moses still didn’t trust God enough, and he doesn’t trust himself, so he doesn’t want to take the assignment.  I can totally relate, can you?

Sometimes our insecurities keep us from fulfilling God’s plan for our lives.  But when we place our confidence in Christ and not in our own abilities, we can bring Him the glory he deserves.

Bible Verses About Confidence in God

God tells us repeatedly not to be afraid because He is always with us. The Lord is our refuge and strength. No matter what trials we face, we can have confidence in God to hold us up and help us through them. He is trustworthy, faithful, and true!

Bible Verses About Self-Confidence:

The Bible has a lot to say about our self-worth, but it never instructs us to have self-confidence. In fact, we’re told not to trust in ourselves but to rely on God alone. (2 Cor. 1:9; 2Cor. 3:5; Prov. 28:26).

It’s in our weaknesses that our faith in God is bolstered as we see Him show up and show off for us. (2 Cor. 12:9-10).

God is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (all-present), omnipotent (all-powerful), omnibenevolent (all-loving). With a rep like that, why wouldn’t we trust Him?

Bible Verses About Self-Worth

Self-worth differs from self-confidence in that it is a personal estimation of our value, while the latter is an assurance of our own ability. But instead of relying on our own often skewed opinions of our worth, we need to stand on who God says we are in His word. His declaration of our value is all that matters.

Here are several bible verses about self-worth to remind you of your value in God’s eyes. Be sure to download these scripture coloring pages as well as a reminder of your identity in Christ. These verses about confidence in God are all taken from the King James Version.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

Bible Verses on Confidence in Christ:

The bible says that Jesus never changes. In fact, He is the only constant in our lives. He is faithful and true, and he can be trusted. All others will fail us at some point, but Jesus never will. He is the only one who will never divorce us, forsake us, leave us or unfriend us.
