It’s easy to get discouraged when all those crunches and intensive cardio workout sessions doesn’t really seem to be paying off.

How easy it is to gain weight but when it comes to shedding those pounds, its a painfully slow process.

Weight Loss Scriptures

You might be asking, What does the Bible say about weight-loss? While the Bible doesn’t specifically talk about weight loss, it does talk about the importance of taking care of our bodies. The following weight loss scriptures outlines some of these verses.

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV

The key point from this verse for me is that our bodies are the temple of the Lord. With that in mind, I will abstain from drinking certain beverages, eating certain foods, and be moderate in all that I do. I will abstain from whatever defiles my body as God dwells in me.

This may look different for you based on your beliefs, for me, this may look something like this, abstaining from smoking, drinking alcohol and consuming caffeine.

Don’t look at this as a list of things you can’t do but instead be reminded that God dwells in you and the choices you make matters to God.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV

I am sure you have been there.  Decide to have only a couple chips and before you know it, the bag of chips is a distant memory.

If we continue to let temptation win, it only leads to a downhill battle. Combat those temptations with Bible truths and ask God for help in overcoming your weaknesses.

“ Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”1 Peter 3:3-4 KJV

In a world that obsessed with looks, we can often get caught up in outward appearance. Fitting into that size 4 jeans, getting rid of that muffin top, getting flat abs, and the list goes on and on.

Yes, we should aim to have healthy bodies, but our prime objective shouldn’t be to look like the “ideal woman” according to the tabloids but rather to take care of our bodies in a way that glorifies God.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”  1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV

Something as simple as what we eat and drink is important to God. Whatever activities we participate in, we should do what pleases God. The Bible clearly states in Leviticus what foods we should and shouldn’t eat (Leviticus 11).

“For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.” 1 Timothy 4:8 KJV

Yes we can spend hours in the gym trying to attain a certain body, but we also need to be focusing our energies on what’s most important.

What’s most important is preparing for the life that is to come, having a relationship with Jesus. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you.

“For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10 KJV

Scrolled through Facebook lately. Are you trying to keep up with the Jones’s?

We often put all our energies in trying to get a toned body which to be honest will eventually fade away. We should remember that having a relationship with God is more important than the approval of others, we can’t serve two masters.

It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.” Proverbs 25:27

In all things moderation is the key.
